All BCMGC events shall be handicapped using the BCMGC Tournament Handicap System. This system shall be maintained by the Handicap Committee and will apply only to BCMGC – sanctioned events. Only individual score tournaments sanctioned by the BCMGC shall qualify to be included in the calculation of the Tournament Handicap. Tournament scores from other clubs or weekday events will not be included in the calculation. Every qualifying individual BCMGC tournament round, including each round in a 2-day tournament will be included as a single tournament score in the Tournament Handicap system. Regular (non-major) tournament scores should be posted as “Home” type. “Competition” scores will be reserved only for “major” tournaments, such as the Club Championship, President’s Cup, TOC, etc., which are always 2-day events. Major tournaments will not have any different impact on the proposed BCMGC Tournament Handicap than any other individual tournament scores.
All BCMGC player handicaps for all BCMGC tournaments shall be determined using the following rules:
- If a player has not established a GHIN Index: The Handicap Committee, using information obtained from the player and any other available sources will determine the player’s handicap and then set the handicap at 75% of the estimate. The player cannot win 1st place in any BCMGC MAJOR event. *
- If a player has a GHIN Index but does not have at least one BCMGC tournament score on record: Player’s handicap is set based on 90% of GHIN Index. The player cannot win 1st place in any BCMGC MAJOR event. *
- If a player has a GHIN Index and has at least 1 but less than 6 BCMGC Tournament scores on record: Tournament Handicap is calculated by taking the single lowest BCMGC tournament score differential from the player’s BCNGC tournament scores or their GHIN index, whichever is lower. The player is eligible to win 1st place in any non-major event. A player must have at least 4 individual BCMGC scores within the calendar year preceding a major event to win 1st place in that event.
- If a player has a GHIN Index and 6 or more BCMGC tournament scores on record: Tournament Handicap is calculated as the average of the lowest two BCMGC tournament score differentials from a player’s most recent 6 events or their GHIN index, whichever is lower. Player is eligible to win 1st place in any event and must meet all other criteria for major events.
When a player enters a 2-day (Major) BCMGC tournament, his Tournament Handicap, established before that tournament, will remain in effect through the entire weekend. We will not use the first day’s score to recalculate their handicap for the second day of the tournament.
*If a player’s lack of qualified tournament scores is due to a serious illness, injury, or other absence which prevented him from playing in BCMGC tournaments, the Handicap Committee may decide to override this rule and allow that player to qualify to win BCMGC major events. In addition to the rules above, a player must have played in a minimum of 4 individual BCMGC events within the calendar year preceding a major event in order to win 1st place in the event.
