GSGA RULES SEMINAR GREEN ISLAND CC

GSGA held a 2023 Rules Seminar at Green Island CC Tuesday 3/2/23 at 6 pm going over rules changes for 2023. Doug Speakman and Dean Wilson from BCMGA attended. The seminar was a full 2 hours and focused on penalty changes. Most of the changes were subtle things, nothing like some past major changes like leaving the pin in the hole. One I remember was that now, if you drop a ball in the “playing area” outside of a “penalty area” and it comes to rest close to the edge of the penalty area you dropped out of, but would require you to have to stand in the penalty area to hit the shot, that will now be where you must play the ball. I believe previously you would have had to re-drop so that you would not have to stand in the penalty area…we have always played this as having to take “complete relief” in the past. Going forward that will not be the case. once you drop and the ball comes to rest in the approved area of relief it is “in play” and must be played from that spot!
